About us

Folklore and ethnographic ensemble "Sazgen sazy" (translated as the Pantry of Melodies) It was established in 1981 at the National Museum of Folk Instruments of the Atlas on the initiative of an outstanding music researcher, prominent statesman, historian, ethnographer Uzbekali Zhanibekov.

From the very first days of its foundation, the collective has been carrying out an important mission to preserve and promote folk music, as well as the revival of national musical instruments. According to the expert masters, there are about 50 of them in the history of Kazakh music, but only half have survived to this day. Among them are sybyzgy, zhetygen, saz syrnai, sherter, there are also such ancient recreations as adyrna, sazgen, narco-byz. The uniqueness of "Sazgen Sazy" is that each of its performers not only has the ability to skillfully play several of these instruments, but can also restore and even create them with their own hands.

The performing style of the ensemble is characterized by a high level of professionalism, artistic taste and excellent knowledge of traditional features of playing folk instruments. The musicians traditionally perform in luxurious costumes and antique outfits restored according to ethnographic descriptions.

The main repertoire of "Sazgen sazy" is folk songs, kuis, melodies, as well as works by Kazakh folk composers Kurmangazy, Ylas, Tattimbet, Dauletkerei, Kazangap, Dina Nurpeisova, Sugur, Bayzhigit and others. At the same time, it is a mistake to associate the collective exclusively with folklore creativity. The artists also masterfully perform the music of both contemporary authors and foreign classics, for example, Brahms' Hungarian Dance, Monty's Chardash, Strauss' Radetsky March, works by Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, as well as The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Demis Roussos and Michel Legrand. In fact, all the performances of "Samruk" evoke a warm response from the public with a peculiar plot, interesting choreography and skill. The repertoire of the troupe is the most diverse. It includes both full-length performances in the genre of dance theater, and various forms of choreographic miniatures. But they are all united by one simple but eternal theme - the relationship of man with the world... And if at the beginning of the journey, works based on techniques new to Kazakhstan at that time prevailed, then lately the choreographer Adamova has been paying close attention to the possibility of using national traditions and folk music in modern choreography.

The modern dance Theater "Samruk" has repeatedly become the winner and laureate of various international competitions and festivals. His tour card extends far beyond the borders of our country - Turkey (Istanbul), China (Shanghai), Kyrgyzstan (Bishkek), Russia (St. Petersburg), Austria (Vienna), Germany (Stuttgart).
